As they say, a picture is worth many words . .
I had to grind away some of the weld beads to get a flush surface for
the mounting nuts.
A little more restrictive coming out of the head pipes than I wanted.
Not exacly the cleanest work I've seen. ;-)
Not overly compact, . .
. . . but I can get to the nuts to tighten it onto the head very easily.
Much straighter!
Hanging a touch low, but this helped reduce the angle of the bends while
keeping the original tip location.
Sorry, no tip yet.
Downpipe and flex section. It was one tight fit and still sticks
down below the center support a bit.
Ah, turbo in place. Very close the front crossmember. Would
do it differently next time.
Still no hoses.
Notice the downpipe/turbo support bracket that mounts to the original
block mounting.
Also the rapid change in diameter from the turbine section helps to
break up the swirl for faster exit speeds.
The oxygen sensor and EGT sensor are now mounted on the top side of
the 180 degree bend.
And the rest of these are to give you an idea of how fat the exhaust
ports are now. Notice the matching to the gasket.
The same gasket for comparison against the stock exhaust manifold.
At least that much material was removed from the head.
Not the perfect port match job into the header, but still vastly larger
than the stock header tubes.
The lips that you can see have been smoothed into the piping.
Now that the whole thing is complete, I hope to get some better pictures
of the underside of the car sometime soon.
There just wasn't enough good lighting to do it in the shop.
I'll also post some pictures of the completed turbo setup with all
of the hoses and blowoff valve in place as well.
